Description
The Orbbec Astra2 Structured Light Camera represents a significant evolution in accessible 3D sensing, engineered for developers and system integrators requiring precision depth data. Its core is Orbbec’s latest custom MX6600 ASIC, which processes structured light patterns at 850nm wavelength to generate dense, accurate point clouds with a 58.2°×45.2° field of view. This dedicated hardware ensures consistent performance and low latency for real-time applications.
Beyond raw depth capture, the Astra2 is a fully integrated sensor suite. It simultaneously streams high-definition 1920×1080 RGB video at 30 frames per second, enabling fused RGB-D perception. The onboard 6-degree-of-freedom IMU adds inertial motion data, crucial for stabilizing point clouds in moving platforms or for gesture recognition. Multi-camera sync support via hardware or software allows for the deployment of synchronized camera arrays, expanding coverage for large-scale volumetric capture or robotic workcells.
Designed for seamless integration, the camera operates via a single USB-C cable carrying both data and power (under 3W typical consumption). It is supported by Orbbec’s comprehensive SDK, which provides cross-platform APIs and drivers for Windows and Linux, facilitating rapid prototyping and deployment in robotics, biometrics, industrial metrology, and interactive systems.
