Designed for the Raspberry Pi ecosystem, this camera module leverages the dedicated CSI bus for high-bandwidth image data transfer. The 5-megapixel OV5647 CMOS sensor provides a native resolution suitable for both high-quality still captures and full HD video streaming. Its core innovation is the embedded IR-CUT filter paired with an onboard ambient light sensor (photoresistor), which automatically toggles the filter to block infrared light during the day for true color reproduction and allows it in at night for maximum sensitivity with IR illumination.
The module includes provisions for system integrators to add external infrared LEDs, with onboard screw holes serving dual purposes for mechanical mounting and delivering 3.3V to 5V power to attached lights. An adjustable resistor lets developers fine-tune the ambient light threshold that triggers the day/night mode switch, enabling customization for specific deployment environments. This makes it an ideal, low-power vision sensor for Raspberry Pi-based IoT applications requiring reliable 24/7 monitoring.
