Winsen MP901 Air-Quality Gas Sensor - Metal Cap Encapsulation
The Winsen MP901 is a semiconductor VOC gas sensor designed for air quality monitoring in home, office, and fresh air systems. It provides a detection range of 1–50 ppm and is compatible with simple signal conditioning circuits for integration into air cleaners and environmental monitoring devices.
Features
- Semiconductor flat-surface sensor with metal cap encapsulation for durability.
- Detects a wide range of VOCs including alcohol, smoke, formaldehyde, toluene, and benzene (1–50 ppm).
- Utilizes multilayer thick-film manufacturing on a miniature Al2O3 ceramic substrate.
- Low power consumption with a simple interface for easy circuit integration.
- Requires an initial warm-up period of over 48 hours for stable operation.

The MP901 gas sensor operates on the principle of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) conductivity change in the presence of target gases. The sensor element consists of a heater and semiconductor material deposited on a subminiature alumina ceramic substrate, with electrodes brought out via down-leads and sealed within a metal housing. As VOC concentration increases, the sensor’s conductivity rises proportionally, allowing a basic external circuit to convert this change into a corresponding gas concentration output signal.
Designed for long-term stability in indoor environmental monitoring, the sensor is suited for integration into air purifiers, HVAC fresh air systems, and smart home air quality monitors. Its metal cap encapsulation provides mechanical protection and helps maintain stable performance under typical indoor temperature and humidity conditions.
