Plantower PMS5303 PM2.5 Laser Particle Concentration Sensor - UART, 0~500 µg/m³, 5V
The Plantower PMS5303 is a laser-based particulate matter sensor providing digital PM2.5 concentration data via UART (3.3V TTL). Operating from a 5V supply, it is designed for integration into air quality monitors, Arduino projects, Raspberry Pi systems, and industrial environmental monitoring stations.
Features
- Laser scattering principle for accurate PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 concentration measurement.
- Digital UART output with 3.3V TTL logic for direct MCU interfacing (Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi).
- Patented six-sided shielding design minimizes optical interference for stable readings.
- Low power consumption with 200 mA active current and 2 mA standby mode.
- Compact form factor (65 x 42 x 23 mm) suitable for embedded and portable applications.

The PMS5303 sensor employs a laser diode and photodetector to implement Mie scattering theory, quantifying airborne particulate concentrations in real-time. It outputs digital Particle count data for three distinct size bins (0.3–1.0 µm, 1.0–2.5 µm, and 2.5–10 µm), which are algorithmically converted to mass concentration values (µg/m³). The module’s integrated fan ensures consistent airflow across the sensing chamber.
Designed for continuous sampling, the sensor provides serial data updates every second. Its robust six-sided metal shield protects the optical path from ambient light and external contamination, ensuring high signal integrity. The 5V power requirement and low standby current make it suitable for both line-powered and battery-operated air quality monitoring systems.
