Description

The YF-G1 water flow sensor operates on a mechanical Hall-effect principle. Water flow drives a magnetic rotor assembly; as the rotor speed changes with flow velocity, an integrated Hall sensor detects the rotating magnetic field and outputs a corresponding digital pulse signal. This pulse frequency is directly proportional to the volumetric flow rate, enabling precise measurement for control systems.

Engineered for reliability, the sensor features a plastic valve body rated for media temperatures up to 80°C and a maximum working pressure of 1.75 MPa. The Hall element is epoxy-resin encapsulated, providing protection against water ingress and oxidation for long-term stability in demanding environments.

Key Features

  • Hall-effect sensing with digital pulse output for direct microcontroller interfacing.
  • Broad 3.5-24V DC operating voltage ensures compatibility with 5V and 12V systems.
  • Stainless steel ball-bearing rotor assembly for smooth, sensitive rotation and reduced wear.
  • Epoxy-encapsulated, water-isolated Hall element enhances durability and signal integrity.
  • Upper and lower force sealing ring design resists thermal expansion and contraction effects.
  • ROHS-compliant materials used throughout construction.
  • Compact form factor (115mm length) with standard 1/2" NPT threads for straightforward plumbing integration.

Applications

  • Residential and commercial hot water heater flow rate monitoring and control.
  • DIY hydroponics and aquarium water circulation and dosing systems.
  • Industrial liquid process control and leak detection in pipelines.
  • Solar water heating system performance monitoring.
  • Irrigation system water usage measurement and management.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the output signal of the YF-G1 flow sensor and how do I interface it with an Arduino?

The YF-G1 outputs a digital pulse signal. The pulse frequency is proportional to the flow rate. To interface with an Arduino, connect the sensor's signal wire (typically yellow) to a digital interrupt pin, the red wire to a 5V pin, and the black wire to GND. Use a library or code to count pulses over a period to calculate the flow rate.

What is the maximum pressure and temperature this sensor can handle?

The sensor is rated for a maximum working water pressure of 1.75 MPa (approximately 254 psi). The operating temperature range for the liquid medium is 0°C to 80°C. Exceeding these limits may damage the internal mechanical components or seals.

Can this sensor be used with liquids other than water?

While designed for water, it may work with other low-viscosity, clean, non-corrosive liquids. However, performance calibration will differ. Avoid corrosive chemicals, and ensure the liquid is free of large particulates to prevent damage to the rotor and bearings. A filter is recommended for poor water quality.
