Description

The OZONE 2 CLICK utilizes a heated metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) MQ131 sensor element. The sensor’s conductivity increases proportionally with ozone concentration, allowing the board to translate gas presence into a measurable electrical signal. A protective stainless steel mesh shields the sensing element from particulates and mechanical damage, though prolonged exposure to excessive moisture or corrosive gases should be avoided.

The board integrates a high-precision 22-bit delta-sigma ADC (MCP3551) accessible via SPI, providing digital readings with excellent resolution for accurate ozone level monitoring. A direct analog output is also available for simpler analog-to-digital conversion. The sensor requires a 48-hour preheating period at 5V to stabilize and achieve its specified performance and sensitivity ratio (R0/Rs ≥ 3 in 50 ppm O3).

Key Features

  • High-quality MQ131 ozone sensor with a broad 10–1000 ppm measurement range.
  • Dual-mode output: raw analog signal and digitized SPI interface via integrated 22-bit ADC.
  • Stainless steel protective mesh ensures durability against dust and physical impact.
  • Onboard calibration potentiometer for fine-tuning sensor response and baseline adjustment.
  • Standardized mikroBUS footprint enables rapid prototyping without complex wiring.
  • Wide operating voltage compatibility (3.3V or 5V) suits various microcontroller ecosystems.
  • Heated sensor element ensures stable operation and consistent sensitivity over time.

Applications

  • Portable and fixed air quality monitoring stations for ozone pollution detection.
  • Industrial safety systems for monitoring ozone levels in sterilization or water treatment facilities.
  • Environmental research equipment for atmospheric ozone concentration studies.
  • Warning and alert systems integrated into HVAC or building automation controls.
  • Educational and prototyping platforms for gas sensing and environmental technology development.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the required preheating time for the MQ131 sensor on this board?

The MQ131 ozone sensor requires a 48-hour preheating period with a 5V supply applied to its integrated heating element before it delivers stable and specified performance. This burn-in process conditions the metal oxide semiconductor layer for consistent sensitivity and accurate readings.

What are the output options from the OZONE 2 CLICK board?

The board provides two output options: a direct analog voltage signal from the sensor and a high-resolution digital SPI interface via the onboard 22-bit MCP3551 ADC. You can choose the analog pin for simple ADC reading or use the SPI bus for precise digital data acquisition.

Is this board compatible with Arduino or Raspberry Pi?

Yes, but typically through a mikroBUS carrier board or host. The OZONE 2 CLICK uses the standard mikroBUS footprint. You would need a main board (like an Arduino Uno shield or Raspberry Pi HAT) that features a mikroBUS socket to plug this Click board in for easy integration of its SPI or analog signals.

What is the operating voltage range?

The board is designed to operate from either a 3.3V or 5V DC power supply. This dual-voltage compatibility allows it to interface seamlessly with both 3.3V and 5V logic microcontroller systems without requiring an external level shifter.
