Amphenol SGX Sensortech Sensortech MP-7227 Methane Gas Sensor Module - RS232 Interface, Audible Alarm
The Amphenol SGX Sensortech Sensortech MP-7227 is a low-power MEMS pellistor-based gas sensor module designed for detecting methane (natural gas) concentrations up to 5% v/v. It features integrated visual and audible alarms, RS232 serial communication for data logging, and is optimized for battery-powered operation with standard AA cells.
Features
- MEMS Pellistor Sensor (MP-7227) for low-power methane detection.
- Detection range up to 5% v/v CH4 (below 100% LEL).
- Integrated visual (LED) and audible (buzzer) alarm system.
- RS232 serial interface for state monitoring and concentration data.
- Battery-operated design suitable for portable or remote monitoring.

This module utilizes a catalytic bead (pellistor) sensing principle, where the MP-7227 MEMS sensor detects methane gas through a temperature change caused by catalytic combustion on its surface. The module is engineered for reliable, low-power operation, making it ideal for extended battery life in field-deployable detectors.
It provides a linear analog sensitivity greater than 10 mV per percent of methane concentration, with a fast response time under 30 seconds. The module includes self-test functionality and is designed specifically for methane/natural gas, and is not suitable for detecting propane or butane. The integrated RS232 interface allows for direct connection to data loggers, PLCs, or PC-based monitoring systems.
