Description

The Teltonika RUT241 Industrial 4G eSIM Router is a compact, high-reliability networking device engineered for industrial IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. Its core architecture is built around a 580 MHz Mediatek CPU with 128 MB RAM and 16 MB flash, running the feature-rich RutOS firmware. This provides a stable platform for advanced routing, multiple VPN protocols (OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard), and a configurable firewall.

Connectivity is centered on 4G LTE Cat 4 with fallback to 3G/2G networks, ensuring continuous data backhaul. The router’s standout feature is its integrated eSIM supporting the SGP.22 standard alongside a physical SIM slot, allowing for seamless carrier switching and redundancy. The device supports passive Power over Ethernet (PoE) on its LAN port, simplifying installation in remote locations. Designed for harsh conditions, its metal enclosure and wide operating temperature range make it suitable for outdoor cabinets, vehicle telematics, and industrial automation.

Key Features

  • Industrial-grade 4G LTE Cat 4 cellular router with global band support and automatic network fallback.
  • Integrated eSIM (SGP.22) technology supporting up to 7 profiles for flexible, over-the-air carrier management.
  • Dual SIM capability (1 physical, 1 eSIM) with automatic failover for enhanced network reliability.
  • Wi-Fi 4 (802.11b/g/n) operates as an access point or client, supporting up to 50 concurrent users.
  • Advanced RutOS firmware with comprehensive VPN (OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard), firewall, and routing features.
  • Remote device management, monitoring, and firmware updates via the Teltonika Remote Management System (RMS).
  • Digital input and output (DIO) for integrating sensors, alarms, or controlling external devices.
  • Passive Power over Ethernet (PoE) support on the LAN port (9-30VDC) for simplified single-cable power and data.

Applications

  • Industrial IoT (IIoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication for remote monitoring and control.
  • Vehicle telematics and fleet management systems requiring always-on, rugged connectivity.
  • Remote site connectivity for ATMs, vending machines, digital signage, and kiosks.
  • Smart agriculture and environmental monitoring stations in field deployments.
  • Failover and backup internet connectivity for critical network infrastructure.
  • Building automation and security systems requiring cellular backhaul.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I configure the eSIM on the Teltonika RUT241 router?

The RUT241's eSIM is managed via the RutOS web interface under the 'Mobile' section. You can download and activate eSIM profiles from supported carriers using the SGP.22 standard. Configuration typically involves scanning a QR code provided by your mobile network operator to provision the device over-the-air, allowing remote carrier switching without physical SIM card changes.

What is the power input method and can it be powered via Ethernet?

The router accepts 9-30 VDC via its dedicated power terminal. It also supports Passive Power over Ethernet (PoE) on the LAN1 port using Mode B (pins 4-5+, 7-8-). Important: This is NOT compliant with IEEE 802.3af/at/bt standards. You must use a compatible passive PoE injector supplying 9-30VDC. Do not connect it to a standard PoE switch to avoid damage.

How do I set up the digital I/O (DIO) pins for remote monitoring or control?

The RUT241 features configurable digital input and output pins accessible via the RutOS interface under 'I/O'. The input can be configured to detect a voltage change (e.g., from a dry contact sensor) and trigger an SMS, email, or change a routing rule. The output can be set remotely via SMS or the web interface to switch a relay or LED, enabling control of external devices.
