Description

The LIS2DU12TR is a high-performance linear accelerometer where the MEMS sensing element and ASIC are co-designed to achieve an outstanding ultra-low-power architecture. Its anti-aliasing filter operates with one of the lowest current consumptions available, making it ideal for battery-powered and always-on applications. The device can measure accelerations with output data rates configurable from 1.6 Hz up to 800 Hz.

An integrated self-test feature allows for functional verification within the final application. The sensor includes a dedicated internal processing engine that handles complex motion and acceleration detection algorithms, offloading these tasks from the main host processor. The device is housed in a compact LGA-12 (2×2 mm) package and is compliant with RoHS and ECOPACK environmental standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the LIS2DU12TR accelerometer?

The LIS2DU12TR operates from a wide supply voltage range of 1.62V to 3.6V. It also features an independent I/O supply pin (Vdd_IO), allowing the digital interface to be powered separately from the analog core, which provides flexibility when interfacing with microcontrollers using different logic voltage levels (e.g., 1.8V or 3.3V).

What communication interfaces does this accelerometer support?

This sensor supports three high-speed digital interfaces: the standard I²C and SPI protocols, as well as the modern MIPI I3C® interface. This versatility allows for easy integration into a wide array of host systems, from simple microcontrollers to complex application processors, enabling efficient data transfer and configuration.

What built-in motion detection features are available?

The LIS2DU12TR includes a dedicated internal processing engine for motion and acceleration detection. Key features are free-fall detection, wake-up from inactivity, recognition of single and double taps, monitoring of activity/inactivity states, and 6D/4D orientation sensing. These functions run on the sensor itself, reducing the computational load on the main host CPU.

How does the integrated FIFO buffer benefit my system design?

The 128-level FIFO buffer allows the accelerometer to store multiple samples internally. This enables the host processor to enter a low-power sleep mode for extended periods while the sensor continues collecting data. The host can then wake up and read a batch of data in a single transaction, significantly reducing the overall system's active power consumption and bus traffic.
