Mikroe AIR QUALITY 3 CLICK (Mikroe-2953) – eCO₂ & TVOC Air Quality Sensor Board, I²C
The Mikroe AIR QUALITY 3 CLICK is a mikroBUS-compatible sensor board featuring the ams OSRAM CCS811 IC for measuring equivalent CO₂ (eCO₂) and Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) via I²C communication. It operates at 3.3V and is designed for rapid integration into portable and stationary air quality monitoring systems.
Features
- Measures equivalent CO₂ (400–8192 ppm) and TVOC (0–1187 ppb) concentrations.
- Integrates the ams OSRAM CCS811 digital gas sensor with onboard MCU for processed data output.
- Communicates via I²C interface for easy connection to host microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.).
- Features a metal oxide (MOX) sensor microplate with micro-hotplate technology for low power consumption.
- Standard M-sized Click board (42.9 x 25.4 mm) compatible with all mikroBUS host boards.

The AIR QUALITY 3 CLICK utilizes the CCS811 sensor from ams OSRAM, which combines a metal oxide (MOX) gas sensing element with an integrated microcontroller and ADC. This architecture allows the sensor to perform onboard processing of raw gas readings, outputting calibrated eCO₂ and TVOC values directly via I²C, thereby reducing computational load on the host system. The MOX sensor employs a micro-hotplate design, enabling fast thermal cycling, high reliability, and significantly lower power consumption compared to traditional MOX sensors.
The board includes temperature compensation to enhance measurement accuracy across varying environmental conditions. It is designed for 3.3V operation and provides programmable interrupts to alert the host system when new data is ready or if a baseline calibration should be run. This makes it an ideal, ready-to-use module for developers requiring precise indoor air quality metrics without complex analog signal conditioning.
