The Crowtail Moisture Sensor 2.0 operates on the principle of electrical resistivity. Its two exposed probes act as a variable resistor within the soil Matrix; higher moisture content lowers the electrical resistance between the probes, which is translated into a corresponding analog voltage output. This straightforward method provides a reliable, real-time indicator of soil water content.
The module is engineered for practical deployment with its extended probe legs, allowing for deeper insertion into soil pots or garden beds for more representative moisture readings. Its low-power design makes it suitable for battery-powered, long-term environmental monitoring systems integrated with platforms like Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi.
