Description

This sensor integrates a semiconductor capacitive fingerprint sensor with a dedicated ID809 processor, enabling standalone fingerprint enrollment, storage, and 1:1 or 1:N matching. The built-in IDfinger6.0 algorithm ensures fast, reliable recognition with a high false acceptance rate (FAR) and low false rejection rate (FRR). The module’s Gravity interface standardizes connection with 4-pin I2C cables, simplifying integration into prototyping and embedded systems.

Designed for durability, the sensor features a CNC metal ring surrounding the sensing area, providing mechanical protection and a defined aperture. It operates across an industrial temperature range of -40°C to 60°C, making it suitable for both indoor and harsh environment applications. The integrated breathing LED provides clear visual feedback for enrollment and verification status.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for this fingerprint sensor?

The module operates from 3.3V to 5V DC, making it directly compatible with both 3.3V logic microcontrollers (like Raspberry Pi or ESP32) and standard 5V Arduino boards. Ensure your power supply can provide the required <60mA operating current.

How do I communicate with this sensor and what is the wiring pinout?

Communication is via the I2C protocol. Use the included Gravity-4P cable: connect the red wire to VCC (3.3V-5V), black to GND, blue to SDA, and green to SCL. The module has a default I2C address; refer to the DFRobot library for address configuration and command set.

Can this sensor operate independently, or does it require a constant connection to a microcontroller?

The sensor performs fingerprint enrollment, storage, and matching independently using its onboard ID809 processor. A host microcontroller is only needed to send high-level commands (e.g., 'enroll', 'verify') via I2C and to receive the match result, reducing host processing load.

What is the fingerprint enrollment process and verification speed?

Fingerprints are enrolled by presenting the finger multiple times as prompted by the library. The sensor stores the template internally. Verification against the stored database of 80 fingerprints typically completes within 300 to 400 milliseconds, providing fast access control response.

Is this sensor suitable for outdoor or harsh environment use?

With an operating temperature range of -40°C to 60°C and a protective CNC metal ring, the sensor is designed for durability. However, the capacitive sensing area itself should be kept clean and dry. For fully outdoor or wet locations, additional environmental sealing around the module is recommended.
