Description

The OE-775 encoder utilizes a Hall effect sensing principle to detect the rotation of a magnetic disk attached to a motor’s rear shaft protrusion. The sensor generates two digital square wave outputs (Channels A and B) that are approximately 90 degrees out of phase, forming a standard quadrature encoder signal. This output allows precise calculation of rotational speed from the pulse frequency and direction from the phase relationship.

Designed for durability in varied environments, the encoder operates across an industrial temperature range and features a compact, shielded plastic housing. The included magnet, mounting hardware, and pre-wired cable facilitate straightforward installation onto compatible OrangeRX gear motors or other DC motors with a long back shaft, enabling closed-loop control and positional feedback in robotic and automation systems.

Key Features

  • Hall-effect based magnetic sensing for non-contact, wear-free operation and high reliability.
  • Quadrature output (A and B channels) provides both incremental position and directional data.
  • Wide 4.5-24V input voltage compatibility for use with 5V, 12V, and 24V logic systems.
  • Low current draw (max 10mA) minimizes power load on the host controller or motor driver.
  • Industrial-grade operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C for harsh environments.
  • Complete mounting kit with plastic enclosure, magnet, cable, and hardware for easy motor integration.
  • Optimized performance-to-cost ratio for adding precise feedback to DC gear motors.

Applications

  • Precise speed and position feedback for OrangeRX planetary DC gear motors in robotics and automation.
  • Closed-loop velocity control and directional sensing in DIY CNC machines, 3D printers, and linear actuators.
  • Motor encoder integration for educational robotics platforms and STEM project kits.
  • Retrofitting older DC gear motors with incremental encoder feedback for improved system control.
  • Monitoring rotational speed in conveyor systems, turntables, and small industrial machinery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the OE-775 encoder?

The OE-775 Hall effect encoder operates from a wide DC voltage range of 4.5V to 24V. This makes it compatible with common 5V microcontroller systems (like Arduino), 12V automotive/robotics setups, and standard 24V industrial control panels without requiring an additional voltage regulator.

How many counts per revolution (CPR) does this encoder provide?

The encoder provides a resolution of 7 counts per revolution (CPR) of the motor shaft. This is achieved by counting both the rising and falling edges of both the A and B quadrature output channels. For basic speed detection, counting only one edge of one channel yields a lower pulse count per revolution.

What motors is the OE-775 encoder compatible with?

The OE-775 is specifically designed for OrangeRX planetary DC gear motors but can be adapted to any DC motor with a long, protruding rear shaft. The included magnet attaches to the shaft, and the plastic case mounts over it. The shaft inner diameter (ID) of the encoder is 10.5mm, so the motor's back shaft must fit within this dimension.

What are the pinouts on the encoder's connecting cable?

The cable provides six connections: Hall Sensor Vcc (power), Hall Sensor GND (ground), Hall Sensor A Vout (Channel A output), Hall Sensor B Vout (Channel B output), Motor - (typically not used by the encoder), and Motor + (typically not used). For reading the encoder, you only need to connect Vcc, GND, and the A and B outputs to your microcontroller's digital input pins.
