The RCWL-0516 utilizes a microwave Doppler radar technique, emitting a low-power 5.8GHz signal to detect movement within its 1-2 meter range. This method offers advantages over traditional PIR sensors, including the ability to detect motion through certain non-metallic materials and less susceptibility to ambient temperature changes.
The module features an integrated RCWL-9196 signal processing chip, which handles the complex radar signal analysis and provides a clean, TTL-compatible output. It delivers a 3.3V HIGH signal for 2-3 seconds upon detecting motion before returning to a LOW state. Its robust 4-28V input range makes it suitable for a variety of power supplies, from battery packs to regulated wall adapters.
