The HS-S59-L operates on the principle of infrared beam interruption. An infrared LED on one side of the slot emits a continuous beam, which is received by a matched NPN phototransistor on the opposite side. When an opaque object passes through the 5.9mm slot, it breaks the beam, causing the phototransistor to switch and trigger a TTL-compatible low-level logic signal at the output pin.
This sensor module incorporates a Schmitt trigger circuit, which provides hysteresis to the output signal. This design effectively debounces and shapes the pulse, eliminating noise and ensuring a clean, stable digital signal suitable for precise timing, speed calculation, and encoder pulse counting applications in various electronic and automation projects.
