Description

The Saier HZ21WA-C employs a precision turbine rotor to measure liquid flow. As fluid passes through the sensor body, it spins the turbine, generating a pulsed output signal proportional to the flow rate. This signal can be interpreted as either a frequency (digital) or a voltage (analog), providing compatibility with a wide range of data acquisition systems, from Arduino and Raspberry Pi to industrial PLCs.

Built for reliability in demanding environments, the sensor features a robust housing capable of withstanding pressures up to 1.75 MPa. Its electrical isolation, with an insulation resistance greater than 100 MΩ, ensures stable operation and protects connected electronics. The sensor is also suitable for monitoring compatible gases, extending its utility beyond liquid flow applications.

Key Features

  • High-reliability turbine sensor mechanism for consistent, repeatable flow measurements.
  • Broad 4.5–18V DC input range supports integration with 5V, 12V, and other common logic/industrial power rails.
  • Durable, corrosion-resistant housing ensures long-term performance in water and compatible fluid lines.
  • Dual-output capability (analog and digital) provides design flexibility for prototyping and final systems.
  • Low power consumption (≤15mA) makes it suitable for battery-powered or energy-conscious IoT nodes.
  • Compact form factor allows for straightforward inline installation in existing piping or equipment.
  • High electrical isolation (>100 MΩ insulation resistance) enhances signal integrity and system safety.

Applications

  • Inline flow monitoring for commercial water dispensers, coffee machines, and beverage vending systems.
  • Residential water usage tracking and leak detection in smart home automation setups.
  • Process control and cooling loop monitoring in industrial machinery and HVAC systems.
  • Agricultural irrigation system flow measurement and dosage control.
  • Prototyping and data logging for fluid dynamics research and educational projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the output signal type of the HZ21WA-C sensor?

The HZ21WA-C provides both analog and digital output options. The digital output is typically a pulse signal (frequency) proportional to the flow rate, while the analog output is a voltage level. You can select the appropriate interface based on your microcontroller or PLC input requirements.

Can this sensor be used with gases, or is it only for liquids?

While primarily designed for water and compatible liquids, the sensor's turbine mechanism is also suitable for monitoring compatible, non-corrosive gases. Ensure the gas is clean, dry, and within the specified flow and pressure ranges to avoid damaging the internal components.

How do I wire and power the sensor for use with an Arduino?

Connect the sensor's red wire to a 5V pin (within its 4.5-18V range), black to GND, and the yellow (or signal) wire to a digital or analog input pin on the Arduino. For digital (pulse) reading, use an interrupt-capable pin and count pulses over time. For analog reading, simply read the voltage on an analog input pin.

What is the accuracy of the flow measurements?

The sensor has a stated accuracy of 5–8% across its 1–30 L/min range. Accuracy can be influenced by installation conditions, such as straight pipe runs before and after the sensor to ensure laminar flow, and proper calibration against a known reference for critical applications.

What is the maximum pressure the sensor can withstand?

The HZ21WA-C is rated for a maximum working water pressure of 1.75 MPa (approximately 254 psi). Do not exceed this pressure limit, as it may cause permanent damage to the sensor housing or internal turbine mechanism.
