Description

The nRF52840 Dongle (PCA10059) is a low-cost, hardware-verified USB development platform centered on Nordic Semiconductor’s flagship nRF52840 multiprotocol System-on-Chip. It provides direct access to a powerful Arm Cortex-M4 processor with floating-point unit and a 2.4 GHz radio supporting the latest Bluetooth Low Energy 5.4 specification, alongside Thread, Zigbee, 802.15.4, ANT, and proprietary protocols. This integration makes it an ideal target for nRF Connect for Desktop applications, including Bluetooth mesh provisioning, Thread network commissioning, and RF performance analysis.

Power is supplied via the USB connection, with a wide input voltage range also allowing for external power sources, facilitating portable and battery-operated use cases. The module includes a built-in PCB antenna for immediate wireless functionality and exposes 15 general-purpose I/O pins through castellated solder pads along its perimeter for hardware expansion. The onboard user-programmable RGB LED, green LED, and button offer immediate feedback and control for application development without requiring additional components.
