Winsen GM402B MEMS Combustible Gas Sensor Module - Ceramic Encapsulation
The Winsen GM402B is a MEMS-based combustible gas sensor module with ceramic encapsulation, designed for detecting methane (CH4), propane (C3H8), and similar hydrocarbons. It provides a simple analog interface suitable for integration into portable electronics, consumer appliances, and industrial safety systems.
Features
- MEMS micro-fabrication hot plate on silicon substrate for low power consumption and fast thermal response.
- Detects a wide range of combustible gases including CH4 and C3H8 from 1 to 10,000 ppm (C3H8 reference).
- Ceramic encapsulation ensures stable performance and durability in various environmental conditions.
- Compact 5mm x 5mm footprint with minimal 2g weight for space-constrained designs.
- Simple drive circuit requirement; conductivity changes proportionally with gas concentration.

The GM402B operates on the principle of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensing. Its MEMS-fabricated hot plate heats the gas-sensitive material, which exhibits low conductivity in clean air. When exposed to combustible gases, the material’s conductivity increases in proportion to the gas concentration. This change can be measured with a basic external circuit to generate a corresponding output signal.
Designed for reliability and long-term operation, the sensor’s ceramic package provides mechanical robustness and thermal stability. It is engineered for applications requiring continuous monitoring or leak detection in both consumer and commercial environments, offering a balance of sensitivity, response time, and power efficiency.
