The Waveshare TSL25911FN module integrates a sophisticated light-sensing IC that combines broadband (visible + infrared) and infrared-only photodiodes on a single CMOS chip. Dual integrating analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) digitize the photodiode currents, providing a direct digital output via I2C. This architecture minimizes noise interference and allows a host processor to calculate accurate illuminance (lux) using an empirical formula that approximates human eye response.
Designed for stability across varying environments, the sensor features an exceptional 600M:1 dynamic range and a sensitivity down to 188 µLux. The embedded infrared-responding photodiode enables precise measurements even in environments with strong infrared background noise. The module includes a voltage level translator, making it ready to use with both 3.3V and 5V development boards without external logic shifting.
