Description

The TFS-D400 fingerprint reader module is an intelligent, self-contained biometric system. It handles the complete fingerprint processing pipeline onboard, including image capture, feature extraction, template generation, storage, and 1:1 or 1:N matching. This offloads intensive computational tasks from the host microcontroller, simplifying system design.

Communication is facilitated via a simple UART serial protocol, making it compatible with a vast array of development platforms and industrial controllers. The module operates from a wide 3.3V to 7.5V DC supply and is designed for reliable performance in environments ranging from -25°C to +60°C, supported by anti-electrostatic protection up to 150KV.

Key Features

  • Onboard Processing Power: Powered by an ARM Cortex-M3 STM32F205 microcontroller for standalone fingerprint algorithm execution.
  • High-Security Algorithm: Implements a commercial-grade algorithm with configurable security levels, achieving a low False Acceptance Rate (FAR).
  • Flexible Sensor Interface: Standard 16-pin connector allows the optical sensor to be separated from the processing board for customized mechanical integration.
  • Developer-Friendly Protocol: Open UART command set allows for direct control over fingerprint enrollment, matching, and even raw image/data transfer for advanced applications.
  • Robust Environmental Specs: Rated for operation from -25°C to +60°C and 40% to 85% relative humidity, with built-in ESD protection.
  • High-Capacity Storage: Internal flash memory can store up to 4000 fingerprint templates, suitable for medium-scale access control systems.

Applications

  • Standalone and networked electronic door locks and safe deposit boxes.
  • Employee time & attendance systems and secure access control panels.
  • Biometric authentication for kiosks, vending machines, and smart home security.
  • Personal identification and authority management in embedded systems.
  • Secondary development platforms for custom biometric research and product prototyping.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for this fingerprint module?

The module accepts a wide input voltage range of 3.3V to 7.5V DC. This makes it compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems commonly found on Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and other microcontrollers without requiring a level shifter.

How do I communicate with this module?

Communication is via a standard UART (TTL serial) interface. You connect the module's TX and RX pins to your microcontroller's UART pins. It uses an open, documented command protocol for all operations like enrollment, matching, and template management.

Can the sensor be separated from the main board?

Yes, the module features a divided structure. The high-accuracy optical sensor connects to the processing board via a standard 16-pin interface cable (included). This allows for flexible mechanical mounting, letting you place the sensor in a different location from the electronics.

What is the fingerprint matching speed and accuracy?

The module achieves a matching time of less than 0.5 seconds. It uses a commercial algorithm with a configurable security level, offering a False Acceptance Rate (FAR) of less than 0.001% and a False Rejection Rate (FRR) of less than 0.1% at security level 5.
