Waveshare Rotation Sensor Module with Push Button - 5-Pin Digital Output
The Waveshare Rotation Sensor is an incremental rotary encoder module with an integrated push button, designed for creating user interfaces and position sensing in microcontroller projects. It provides digital quadrature outputs (SIA, SIB) and a switch signal (SW) compatible with 3.3V and 5V logic systems like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32.
Features
- Incremental rotary encoder with 20 steps per 360° rotation (15 pulses per lap).
- Integrated push-button switch for user input and reset functions.
- Wide operating voltage range from 3.0V to 5.3V for 3.3V/5V logic compatibility.
- Compact PCB module measuring 32mm x 15mm with 2.0mm mounting holes.
- Provides digital quadrature outputs (SIA, SIB) for detecting clockwise/counterclockwise rotation.

The Waveshare Rotation Sensor operates as an incremental encoder, translating rotary displacement into a sequence of digital pulse signals. By counting the pulses on its SIA and SIB outputs, a microcontroller can determine both the direction and magnitude of rotation. Unlike a potentiometer, this sensor has no rotational limit, making it ideal for applications requiring continuous or multi-turn position tracking.
The module features a built-in momentary push button (SW) integrated into the knob shaft, providing a simple tactile input for menu navigation, selection, or counter reset functions. Its 5-pin interface (VCC, GND, SIA, SIB, SW) connects directly to digital I/O pins on development boards via the included Jumper wire. The robust digital output ensures reliable signal integrity in user interface and control panel applications.
