The Waveshare Photo Interrupter Sensor operates on an infrared beam-break principle, where an IR LED and phototransistor are precisely aligned across a 6mm gap. An object passing through this gap interrupts the beam, causing a state change at the digital output. The module incorporates a built-in comparator and Schmitt trigger, conditioning the raw phototransistor signal into a clean, debounced TTL logic signal suitable for direct connection to digital I/O pins.
Designed for durability and stable operation, the sensor’s infrared emission spectrum minimizes interference from ambient visible light. The module’s compact PCB features standard 3mm mounting holes and a 3-pin XH2.54 connector for easy installation and wiring. It is engineered for applications requiring non-contact position sensing, speed measurement, and end-stop detection in automated systems and DIY electronics projects.
