The RAK5802 RS485 Module is a compact, energy-efficient interface board engineered for the RAKwireless WisBlock modular IoT platform. It translates UART signals from a WisBlock Core module into robust, differential RS485 signals, enabling reliable communication over long distances in noisy industrial settings. The module leverages the 3PEAK TP8485E transceiver, which supports automatic driver/receiver direction control, simplifying firmware development by removing the need for a dedicated DE pin.
Built for low-power IoT deployments, the module draws power directly from the WisBlock baseboard and can be put into a power-off state by the core MCU to conserve energy. Its design includes in-field quick-connect terminals for easy wiring of the RS485 bus (A, B, GND) and features substantial ESD protection to safeguard against electrostatic discharge events common in industrial installations. This makes it an ideal building block for creating modular Modbus RTU gateways, industrial sensor nodes, and building automation systems.
