Description

The CLJ-A18M-5APB operates on the electromagnetic induction principle, generating an oscillating field from its face. When a conductive metal object enters this field, eddy currents are induced, causing a detectable change in the sensor’s oscillation amplitude. This change is conditioned internally to switch the PNP transistor output.

Engineered for harsh industrial environments, the sensor’s housing provides mechanical strength and resistance to incidental contact. Its 5mm sensing distance offers a balance between detection precision and installation tolerance, making it suitable for applications like part presence verification, end-of-travel detection, and automated counting systems where reliability is critical.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the CLJ-A18M-5APB sensor?

The sensor is designed for a typical industrial DC voltage range of 10-30V DC, with 12-24V DC being the most common operating points. Ensure your power supply is within this range and can provide sufficient current for the load connected to the PNP output.

How do I wire this PNP output sensor to my PLC or controller?

Connect the brown wire to your DC positive supply (12-24V), the blue wire to DC negative (0V/GND). The black wire is the PNP output. For a PLC with a sinking digital input, connect the black wire to the input terminal, and connect the PLC input's common to DC negative. The output switches positive voltage when a metal target is detected.

Can this sensor detect non-metallic objects like plastic or wood?

No. Inductive proximity sensors only detect conductive metals. The electromagnetic field generated by the sensor induces eddy currents in metal objects, which triggers detection. Non-conductive materials like plastic, wood, or glass will not be detected.

What is the effective sensing distance, and does it vary with metal type?

The nominal sensing distance is 5mm for a standard mild steel target. The effective distance can be slightly reduced for non-ferrous metals like aluminum or copper due to differences in conductivity and permeability. Always refer to the sensor's datasheet for reduction factors specific to different materials.
