MQ-7 CO Carbon Monoxide Gas Sensor Module - Analog & Digital Output
The MQ-7 is a semiconductor-based carbon monoxide (CO) gas sensor module providing both analog and digital outputs for direct interfacing with microcontrollers like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32. It operates on a 5V DC supply and detects CO concentrations from 10 to 1000 ppm.
Features
- Semiconductor-based CO detection with high sensitivity in the 10-1000 ppm range.
- Dual output: analog voltage signal (0-5V) and adjustable-threshold digital output.
- Operates on 5V DC with a heater power consumption of approximately 350 mW.
- Designed for easy integration with four mounting holes for secure positioning.
- Stable performance across an operating temperature range of -20°C to 50°C.

The MQ-7 sensor module utilizes a tin dioxide (SnO2) semiconductor sensing element whose conductivity changes in the presence of carbon monoxide gas. This change is conditioned by the onboard circuitry to provide a corresponding analog voltage output, where higher concentrations yield higher voltages. A comparator circuit provides a digital output, with its trigger threshold adjustable via an onboard potentiometer.
The sensor requires a 5V supply for both the heater circuit and the module logic. The heater operates in a high/low voltage cycle (5V and 1.5V) to optimize sensitivity and sensor longevity. The module is designed for reliable stability and rapid response/recovery times, making it suitable for continuous monitoring applications in well-ventilated areas.
