HC-SR501 PIR Motion Sensor Adjustable - 3.3V TTL Output
The HC-SR501 is a passive infrared (PIR) motion detection module featuring a 3.3V TTL-compatible output, making it suitable for integration with microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. It utilizes a pyroelectric sensor and Fresnel lens to detect human body movement within an adjustable range of 3 to 7 meters.
Features
- Wide Operating Voltage: Functions from 4.5V to 20V DC with ultra-low current consumption (<60µA).
- Adjustable Sensing Range: Detection distance is tunable from approximately 3 meters to 7 meters via a sensitivity potentiometer.
- Configurable Output Timing: Delay time (output hold) is adjustable from 5 seconds to 200 seconds; default blockade time is 2.5 seconds.
- Jumper-Selectable Trigger Modes: Allows selection between single-trigger (non-repeatable) and repeat-trigger modes for different application logic.
- Robust Environmental Rating: Operates reliably across a temperature range of -20°C to +80°C.

The HC-SR501 module integrates a pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensor, signal conditioning circuitry, and a Fresnel lens to detect changes in infrared radiation, primarily from moving human bodies. The onboard op-amp filters and amplifies the weak sensor signal, converting it into a clean, digital 3.3V TTL output pulse suitable for direct connection to microcontroller GPIO pins.
Its operational parameters are highly configurable: two potentiometers allow independent adjustment of the detection sensitivity (range) and the output delay time. A rear Jumper pin sets the trigger mode, choosing between a single output pulse per detection event or a retriggerable mode that holds the output high while motion continues. This flexibility makes it adaptable for security systems, automatic lighting, and energy-saving applications.
