This ambient light sensor module employs a TEMT6000 phototransistor, a component specifically chosen for its spectral sensitivity curve that closely emulates the human eye’s response to visible light while minimizing sensitivity to infrared wavelengths. This makes it ideal for applications requiring accurate perception of ambient brightness as experienced by people, such as in automatic lighting control or display backlight dimming systems.
The module outputs a linear analog voltage signal directly proportional to the incident light intensity. When powered at 5V, the output scales from 0V in darkness to approximately 5V under bright illumination up to 1000 Lux. This signal can be read directly by the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) of an Arduino, Raspberry Pi Pico, ESP32, or other microcontroller. The wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C ensures reliable performance in both indoor and demanding outdoor environments.
