The Arducam 5MP OV5647 Camera Module is a purpose-built imaging peripheral for the Raspberry Pi ecosystem. It leverages the Pi’s dedicated Camera Serial Interface (CSI), a high-bandwidth bus designed exclusively for carrying pixel data, ensuring efficient and rapid image transfer from the sensor to the BCM2835 processor. This direct connection via a ribbon cable eliminates bottlenecks associated with USB-based cameras, providing a stable and low-latency video feed.

At its core is the OmniVision OV5647 sensor, a 1/4-inch 5-megapixel CMOS imager capable of still capture and video at up to 30 frames per second.
