Description

The DS1603DA V1.0 ultrasonic sensor utilizes high-frequency sound waves to perform accurate, non-contact distance and liquid level measurements. By installing the sensor at the bottom of a container, it eliminates the need for invasive drilling or direct contact with the medium, making it ideal for monitoring corrosive, toxic, or high-purity liquids. Its sealed housing provides protection against environmental factors.

Equipped with an RS485 interface supporting Modbus protocol, the sensor enables stable data transmission over extended distances and can be daisy-chained with other devices on a single network. The integrated signal conditioning ensures a stable, noise-resistant output suitable for integration into industrial automation systems, SCADA, and PLC-based control panels.

Key Features

  • True non-contact ultrasonic sensing principle for safe operation with hazardous media.
  • Wide-range 10–36V DC power input compatible with standard industrial 12V/24V systems.
  • Industrial-grade RS485 (Modbus RTU) communication interface for network integration.
  • Robust operating temperature range from -15°C to +60°C for reliable performance.
  • High IP protection level (implied by design) for use in demanding industrial environments.
  • Real-time continuous measurement without requiring system reset during tank refilling.
  • Compatible with containers made of steel, glass, ceramics, and dense plastics.
  • Accurate measurement of various liquids including acids, alkalis, and pure solvents.

Applications

  • Non-contact liquid level monitoring in sealed chemical storage tanks and reactors.
  • Level detection for corrosive acids, strong alkalis, and toxic liquids in industrial process vessels.
  • Continuous tank inventory management in pharmaceutical and food & beverage production.
  • Water reservoir and sump level monitoring in wastewater treatment and utility plants.
  • Interface level measurement in storage containers made of steel, glass, or ceramic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the power supply requirement for the DS1603DA sensor?

The DS1603DA operates from a wide 10 to 36V DC power supply, making it directly compatible with common industrial 12V and 24V DC systems. Ensure your power source is stable and within this range for accurate and reliable sensor operation.

How do I communicate with this sensor and can I connect multiple units?

This sensor uses an RS485 interface, typically implementing the Modbus RTU protocol. You can connect it to a PLC, industrial gateway, or microcontroller with an RS485 transceiver. Multiple sensors can be daisy-chained on the same RS485 bus, each requiring a unique Modbus address configured via wiring or software.

Can this sensor measure the level of corrosive liquids like acids?

Yes, its non-contact ultrasonic measurement principle is ideal for corrosive, toxic, or high-purity liquids. Since the sensor is mounted externally at the bottom of the container, the medium never contacts the electronics, ensuring safety and sensor longevity even with strong acids or alkalis.

What is the blind zone and how does it affect installation?

The blind zone is the area within 50mm directly in front of the sensor face where measurements are unreliable. You must install the sensor so that the minimum liquid level never falls within this 50mm zone to ensure valid readings throughout the entire 50–2000mm measurement range.
