The Waveshare Sound Sensor module integrates an electret microphone with the LM386 monolithic audio power amplifier IC. This configuration provides a conditioned analog output signal, suitable for direct ADC input on microcontrollers. The LM386 is characterized by its low quiescent current draw, wide supply voltage range, and minimal external component requirements, making it ideal for embedded sound detection systems.
The module’s frequency response from 50Hz to 20kHz covers the typical audio spectrum, while the onboard potentiometer allows for precise adjustment of signal gain and sensitivity. An LED indicator provides visual feedback on signal activity. Its compact form factor and standard mounting holes facilitate integration into enclosures and robotic platforms.
