The SparkFun SEN-13879 is a dedicated breakout module for the HX711, a 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed specifically for weigh scale and industrial force sensing applications. It conditions the small millivolt-level signal from a strain gauge load cell, amplifying and digitizing it for direct reading by a host controller. The board includes separated analog and digital power supply rails, enhanced with a 3.3µH inductor and a 0.1µF filter capacitor on the digital side for improved noise immunity.
Communication is handled via a straightforward two-wire serial protocol, requiring only a clock pin and a data pin from the microcontroller. Extensive library support exists for platforms including Arduino and Raspberry Pi, simplifying integration. The module supports standard load cell color coding (Red: Excitation+, Black: Excitation-, White: Signal-, Green: Signal+, Yellow: Shield) and is ideal for creating precision scales, process monitoring systems, and presence detection setups.
