This optical liquid level sensor operates on an infrared (IR) light refraction principle. An internal IR LED and a precisely aligned phototransistor at the sensor tip detect the change in internal reflection when the tip transitions from air to liquid, causing a digital output state change. This solid-state design eliminates mechanical wear, enhancing long-term reliability in applications involving water, coolants, or other clear, non-viscous liquids.
The sensor is designed for point-level detection, not continuous measurement, making it ideal for tank overfill protection, low-level alarms, or pump control. Its 5V DC supply and simple digital output make it directly compatible with common digital input pins on Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi GPIO, and industrial PLCs, requiring only a current-limiting resistor for the LED indicator circuit.
