Description

The PMS7003MT employs advanced laser scattering technology to accurately quantify airborne particulate matter. A laser diode illuminates particles, and a photodetector measures the scattered light intensity, which is processed by an internal microcontroller to calculate Particle counts and mass concentrations for PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10.

This sensor features a high counting efficiency of 98% for particles ≥0.5 µm, ensuring reliable data for environmental monitoring. Its robust digital UART interface outputs structured data packets, simplifying integration with data loggers, IoT gateways, and industrial control systems. The compact and thin design is engineered for durability in both indoor and outdoor air quality assessment applications.

Key Features

  • Laser scattering detection principle ensures high accuracy and repeatability for particulate matter measurement.
  • Wide detection spectrum from 0.3 µm to 10 µm Particle diameter, covering fine and coarse dust.
  • Real-time digital serial output (UART) with configurable baud rate for seamless system integration.
  • Ultra-slim 12mm profile enables design flexibility for portable monitors and embedded systems.
  • Optimized internal fan and airflow design provides consistent sampling with a standard 0.1L measurement volume.
  • High-value build with a durable housing suitable for long-term environmental sensing deployments.
  • Low power operation from a single 5V supply, making it ideal for battery-powered applications.

Applications

  • Portable and wearable air quality monitors for personal exposure assessment.
  • HVAC system integration for real-time particulate filtration control and indoor air quality management.
  • Environmental monitoring stations for urban pollution mapping and regulatory compliance.
  • Embedded sensing in smart home devices and IoT air purifiers for automated control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the PMS7003MT sensor?

The PMS7003MT requires a 5V DC power supply, with a safe operating range between 4.5V and 5.5V. Exceeding this range may damage the internal laser diode and microcontroller. A stable 5V source is recommended for optimal performance and accuracy.

How do I communicate with the sensor and read data?

The sensor communicates via a digital UART (serial) interface. You need to connect the module's TX and RX pins to your microcontroller's UART pins (e.g., on Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or ESP32). Data is output in structured packets at a default baud rate (typically 9600 bps), which can be parsed to obtain PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 concentration values.

What Particle sizes can this sensor detect, and what is its accuracy?

The sensor detects particles in the range of 0.3 to 10 micrometers in diameter. It has a counting efficiency of 98% for particles ≥0.5 µm and 50% for 0.3 µm particles. The mass concentration output has a resolution of 1 µg/m³ and is effective within the 0–500 µg/m³ range, suitable for most environmental monitoring scenarios.

Is the sensor suitable for outdoor or industrial environments?

While the PMS7003MT is robust for indoor and portable use, for harsh outdoor or industrial environments, additional protective housing is recommended to shield it from direct rain, extreme temperatures, and high concentrations of large debris. Its primary design is for ambient air quality measurement in controlled or semi-controlled atmospheres.
