The Waveshare Raspberry Pi 8-Channel Relay Expansion Board is engineered to extend the control capabilities of your Raspberry Pi, allowing it to interface with and manage a wide array of high-voltage and high-current devices. Designed for seamless integration, it utilizes the standard Raspberry Pi 40PIN GPIO header, ensuring compatibility with various Pi models including the A+, B+, 2B, 3B, and 3B+, as well as the Jetson Nano. Each of the eight onboard relays is rated to handle significant loads, up to 5A at 250V AC or 5A at 30V DC, making it suitable for controlling lighting, motors, heaters, and other powerful electronics.
A critical safety and reliability feature of this expansion board is its photocoupling isolation. This mechanism effectively separates the control circuit of the Raspberry Pi from the high-voltage load circuit, thereby preventing electrical noise and interference from impacting the sensitive digital logic of the Pi. Onboard LEDs provide immediate visual feedback on the status of each relay, simplifying debugging and operation. Furthermore, the board includes a relay control pin selection jumper, offering flexibility to assign custom GPIO pins for relay control, and a reserved control interface for integration with external controllers like PLCs, enhancing its versatility in complex automation systems.
