Description
The Portenta X8 is a robust, industrial-grade System-on-Module (SOM) engineered for demanding embedded applications. It comes preloaded with a Linux operating system, leveraging a modular container architecture that facilitates the deployment of device-independent software. This powerful module integrates a sophisticated multi-processor design, featuring an NXP Semiconductors i.MX 8M Mini quad-core Cortex-A53 (up to 1.8GHz) alongside a Cortex-M4, complemented by an STMicroelectronics STM32H747 dual-core Cortex-M7 (up to 480MHz) and an additional M4 32-bit Arm MCU. This unique combination delivers exceptional computational density with a total of nine cores, allowing for power-optimized processing.
The Portenta X8 enables seamless integration into the Arduino ecosystem, allowing developers to utilize familiar libraries and tools for real-time tasks, while the Linux environment handles high-performance processing demands. Its onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity ensure secure over-the-air (OTA) updates for both the operating system and applications. With industrial-grade hardware-level security, thanks to a dedicated crypto chip, and support for popular programming languages like Python, Java, and Ruby, the Portenta X8 is ideal for advanced industrial automation, IoT gateways, and edge AI applications requiring both high performance and robust security.
