Description

The WSP2110 VOC gas sensor utilizes multilayer thick-film manufacturing technology. A metal oxide semiconductor layer on a miniature Al2O3 ceramic substrate changes conductivity in the presence of target gases. This change in conductivity, which increases with gas concentration, can be converted into a corresponding output signal via a simple external circuit.

Designed for long-term stability, the sensor requires an initial preheat time of over 120 hours for optimal performance. Its construction, featuring a metal socket and cap, ensures reliable operation in environments like homes and offices for continuous air quality monitoring.

Key Features

  • Semiconductor flat-surface sensor with high sensitivity to organic VOCs.
  • Metal cap encapsulation provides mechanical protection and stable performance.
  • Low power consumption with a 5.0V±0.1V (AC or DC) heater voltage.
  • Fast response and recovery characteristics for real-time detection.
  • Excellent long-term stability and service life.
  • Simple drive circuit requirement, reducing system design complexity.
  • Compact form factor for space-constrained applications.
  • Wide detecting range of 1 to 50 ppm for target gases.

Applications

  • Residential and office air cleaner systems for VOC and indoor air quality monitoring.
  • Automatic exhaust and ventilation control devices in domestic settings.
  • Fresh air system intake quality assessment and control.
  • Portable or fixed air quality monitors for benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the required heater voltage and power supply for the WSP2110 sensor?

The sensor's heater requires a precise 5.0V ± 0.1V supply, which can be either AC or DC. The main loop voltage (Vc) for the sensing circuit can be up to 24V DC. A stable 5V supply is critical for proper sensor operation and longevity.

How do I interface with and get a signal from this semiconductor gas sensor?

The sensor's output is a variable resistance (Rs) that changes with gas concentration. You need an external load resistor (RL) in series with the sensor to form a voltage divider. The voltage across the sensor or the load resistor can then be measured by an ADC to determine the gas concentration level.

What is the significance of the 120+ hour preheat time mentioned in the specs?

The preheat time refers to a required initial conditioning period where the sensor must be powered continuously before it delivers stable and accurate readings. This process stabilizes the metal oxide semiconductor layer. For reliable baseline performance, operate the sensor for over 120 hours before taking critical measurements.

Can this sensor distinguish between different types of VOCs like toluene and formaldehyde?

No, the WSP2110 is a broad-spectrum semiconductor sensor. It responds to a wide range of reducing gases (toluene, benzene, formaldehyde, alcohol, acetone) but does not selectively identify individual gases. It measures total VOC concentration, making it ideal for overall indoor air quality assessment rather than specific gas analysis.
