The STG20-52NC supports both NPN (sinking) and PNP (sourcing) transistor outputs, allowing compatibility with different global PLC and control system standards. NPN outputs connect the load to V+ and are common in Asian and European systems, while PNP outputs connect the load to ground and are often used in North America. The sensor can be configured for either mode based on your safety relay or controller input type.

The detection distance range is typically configured via internal DIP switches or parameter settings on the sensor's control unit. Refer to the product manual for specific instructions. The shorter range (0.2-2.5m) offers higher signal stability for standard applications, while the extended range (0.3-6m) is used for larger safety perimeters, though may require more precise alignment and can be more susceptible to environmental interference.

With the optional IP65 protection rating, the STG20-52NC is dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction, making it suitable for washdown areas in food processing or pharmaceutical industries. However, for continuous outdoor use, additional protection from direct rainfall, extreme temperature swings, and UV exposure is recommended, as the standard operating temperature is limited to -10°C to +55°C.

The 20mm beam pitch determines the minimum object size the curtain can reliably detect; a 20mm spacing can detect fingers or small tools, meeting common safety standards for risk reduction. The 1020mm detection height defines the vertical coverage of the protective field. Combined, these specs create a high-resolution safety zone suitable for safeguarding access points to machinery where precise intrusion detection of limbs or objects is critical.

Proper alignment is crucial. Mount the transmitter and receiver units on stable surfaces opposite each other, ensuring they are parallel and at the same height. Use the provided mounting brackets and fasteners. During initial power-up, use the alignment indicators (typically LEDs) to verify all 52 beams are received. The upper and lower blind areas (20mm and 35mm) must be considered in your mounting layout, as objects in these zones will not be detected.
