The Grove Air Quality Sensor v1.3 utilizes a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensing element from Winsen (MP503) which changes its conductivity in the presence of various reducing gases. This provides a qualitative analog output signal proportional to the concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other contaminants in the air.
Designed for long-term monitoring applications, the module features signal conditioning circuitry for stable output. It is important to note that prolonged exposure to highly polluted environments can temporarily reduce sensor sensitivity, a characteristic of MOS technology. The module is intended for indoor air quality assessment, not for precise quantitative gas measurement or safety-critical applications.
