Description

The YFS403 water flow sensor utilizes a Hall effect sensing principle. As water flows through the valve, it spins a magnetic rotor. A Hall sensor detects each rotation, generating a corresponding pulse signal. The frequency of this pulse is directly proportional to the flow rate, allowing a controller to calculate volumetric flow.

Built for reliability in liquid systems, the sensor features a robust plastic body with a stainless steel impeller shaft and a dual-force seal ring structure designed to prevent leaks. It is suitable for use with water and other non-corrosive, non-aggressive liquids within its specified temperature and pressure limits.

Key Features

  • Hall Effect Sensor provides a clean, digital pulse output for easy microcontroller interfacing.
  • Wide Voltage Compatibility from 3.5V to 24V DC enables use in 5V logic and 12V/24V industrial systems.
  • Leak-Resistant Design employs an upper and lower force structure on the seal ring for long-term reliability.
  • Corrosion-Resistant internals with a stainless steel shaft ensure durability against water and mild chemicals.
  • Compact and Lightweight form factor (62mm width, 35g) simplifies installation in space-constrained applications.
  • Standard G3/4 Threads allow for direct integration into existing plumbing and water heating systems.

Applications

  • Residential and commercial on-demand water heater flow control and activation.
  • Automatic water dispensers, coffee machines, and vending machines for portion control.
  • Industrial and agricultural irrigation system flow monitoring and management.
  • DIY projects and prototypes involving liquid flow measurement with Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
  • Hydroponic and aquarium systems for monitoring water circulation and nutrient dosing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the output signal of the YFS403 flow sensor?

The YFS403 outputs a digital pulse signal via its Hall effect sensor. The yellow wire carries this signal, where the frequency of the pulses is directly proportional to the flow rate. This signal can be read by a microcontroller's digital input pin or interrupt pin to calculate the flow in liters per minute.

What is the maximum system pressure and fluid temperature this sensor can handle?

The sensor is rated for a maximum working water pressure of 1.2 MPa. The operating temperature for the sensor body is ≤80°C, while the temperature of the medium (liquid) flowing through it should not exceed 120°C. It is designed for water and non-corrosive liquids.

How do I wire and power the YFS403 sensor?

Connect the red wire to your positive DC supply voltage (3.5-24V), the black wire to ground, and the yellow wire to a digital input pin on your controller. The sensor draws ≤10 mA at 5V. Ensure the piping is installed vertically, with an inclination not exceeding 5 degrees for accurate measurement.

Can this sensor be used with microcontrollers like Arduino?

Yes, it is highly compatible. The pulse output from the yellow wire can be connected to any digital pin on an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or ESP32. You can use interrupt-based or polling code to count pulses over time and convert the count to a flow rate using a calibration factor specific to your setup.
