Description

This sensor utilizes a platinum resistance temperature detector (RTD) element with a nominal resistance of 100Ω at 0°C and a temperature coefficient of 3850 ppm/K. The 4-wire design is critical for precision measurement, canceling out the effects of lead wire resistance to deliver highly accurate readings directly compatible with industrial RTD input modules and data acquisition systems.

Constructed with a SUS304 stainless steel sheath, the probe offers excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The FEP-insulated, shielded cable provides waterproofing and high insulation resistance (>100 MΩ at 20°C), ensuring signal integrity and long-term stability in environments with moisture, vibration, and electrical noise. The sensor’s fast response time (t0.9 = 0.20s in water) makes it suitable for dynamic temperature monitoring applications.

Key Features

  • High-precision PT100 sensing element compliant with IEC/DIN EN 60751 Class A standard.
  • Rugged SUS304 stainless steel probe housing for corrosion resistance and durability.
  • Industrial FEP cable with stainless steel braid shielding for EMI protection and environmental sealing.
  • 4-wire configuration provides measurement accuracy independent of cable length.
  • Excellent vibration (up to 40g) and shock (100g) resistance for harsh industrial installations.
  • Low self-heating effect (0.4 K/mW) minimizes measurement error.
  • Optimized performance-to-cost ratio for reliable temperature sensing in demanding applications.

Applications

  • Precision temperature monitoring in industrial process control and automation systems.
  • Liquid temperature measurement in HVAC chillers, hydronic systems, and chemical processing tanks.
  • Environmental chamber and laboratory oven calibration and profiling.
  • Machine tool and motor winding temperature protection and monitoring.
  • Food processing and storage facility temperature logging and safety compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Class A and Class B accuracy for this PT100 sensor?

Class A (F0.15) denotes higher precision, with a tolerance of ±(0.15 + 0.002|t|)°C, where |t| is the absolute temperature in °C. Class B has a wider tolerance of ±(0.30 + 0.005|t|)°C. This sensor's Class A rating makes it suitable for applications requiring higher accuracy, such as laboratory calibration or precise process control.

Can I use this 4-wire PT100 sensor with a 2-wire or 3-wire RTD input module?

A 4-wire sensor provides the highest accuracy by compensating for lead wire resistance. It can be connected to a 3-wire input if one sense lead is paired with a power lead, but this sacrifices some accuracy. Connection to a 2-wire input is possible but not recommended, as it will introduce significant measurement error proportional to the cable resistance.

What is the maximum temperature and environment this sensor probe can withstand?

The SUS304 stainless steel probe is rated for continuous use from -50°C to +200°C. It is resistant to corrosion and can be used in air, liquids, and mild chemical environments. The FEP-insulated cable is waterproof and offers high vibration resistance, making the sensor suitable for industrial installations, but it should not be used in strongly acidic or alkaline solutions without verification.

How do I wire and connect this sensor to a PLC or data logger?

The 4-wire cable typically consists of two red leads (excitation/sense) and two white or black leads (sense return). You must connect them to the corresponding terminals on a 4-wire RTD input module, following the manufacturer's wiring diagram. Ensure the measuring current from your instrument is within the sensor's specified 0.3–1.0 mA range to avoid self-heating errors.
