Description
The Pimoroni MAX30101 Breakout module is engineered around the advanced MAX30101 sensor, offering robust capabilities for heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring. It precisely measures the amount of light reflected back from the skin using its array of green, red, and infra-red LEDs and integrated photodetectors. This photoplethysmography (PPG) technique allows for accurate detection of blood volume changes with each heartbeat, making it a valuable tool for health monitoring applications (non-medical).
Beyond biomedical sensing, the MAX30101 can also serve as a basic smoke or particle detector. By analyzing the light scattered by airborne particles, it provides a means to identify the presence of smoke, offering potential for environmental sensing projects. Its standard I2C interface ensures straightforward communication with microcontrollers like Raspberry Pi and Arduino, and its compatibility with Pimoroni’s Breakout Garden HAT further simplifies prototyping and deployment in various embedded systems.
