Description
The LCD1602 RGB LCD HAT with Keypad is specifically engineered for the Raspberry Pi, offering a robust and interactive display solution. It integrates a 16-character by 2-line liquid crystal display, driven by a reliable HD44780-type LCD controller, making it straightforward to interface with your Raspberry Pi via the I2C bus. A notable feature is its optional three-color RGB backlight, allowing users to select or mix colors to suit different application requirements, enhancing visual feedback and user experience.
This HAT significantly simplifies the process of adding a display and user input to Raspberry Pi projects. By leveraging the I2C protocol, it requires only two data pins (SDA/SCL) for communication, freeing up valuable GPIOs for other sensors or peripherals. The onboard 5-way keypad (four directional buttons plus a select button) provides essential physical controls without needing a separate keyboard, making it ideal for building standalone applications with integrated user interfaces, such as data loggers, system monitors, or embedded control panels.
Designed for broad compatibility, the plate supports various Raspberry Pi models. The RGB backlight’s individual color pins are controllable via Raspberry Pi GPIOs, enabling dynamic lighting effects through software PWM. For installation, a piece of electrical tape should be placed over the Raspberry Pi’s USB ports to prevent shorting against the HAT’s metal components, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
