Generic Broken Light Module - Photo Interrupter Sensor, 5V Digital Output
This 5V photo interrupter module provides a digital output signal when an object blocks the light path between its integrated infrared emitter and detector. It is ideal for simple light barrier, object detection, and counting applications with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other 3.3V/5V microcontroller systems.
Features
- Digital output signal triggers when light path is interrupted.
- Operates on a standard 5V DC power supply.
- Compact PCB design measuring 19 x 15 x 8 mm.
- Simple 3-pin interface (GND, VCC, Signal).
- Integrated infrared LED emitter and phototransistor detector.

The Broken Light Module is a photo-interrupter sensor that functions as an optical switch. It houses an infrared LED emitter and a phototransistor receiver aligned across a small gap. When an object passes through this gap, it interrupts the infrared light beam, causing the phototransistor to switch states and produce a clean digital logic signal on its output pin.
The module includes onboard signal conditioning circuitry with pull-up resistors, providing a stable TTL/CMOS-compatible output suitable for direct connection to a microcontroller’s digital input pin. Its compact, board-level design makes it easy to integrate into DIY projects, prototyping boards, and simple automation systems for non-contact object detection.
