The lens uses a standard M12 mount. Compatibility with the Camera Module v3 depends on whether that specific module board has an M12 lens holder. Most official Raspberry Pi Camera Modules (v1, v2) and many third-party M12 boards are compatible. You should verify the mechanical mount on your specific camera board before purchase, as some newer modules may use different lens mounts or integrated optics.

First, ensure your camera module has an M12 threaded lens holder. Screw the lens into the holder by hand until it is snug. To focus, point the camera at a detailed subject approximately 2-3 meters away. While viewing a live video feed (e.g., via `raspistill` or `libcamera`), slowly rotate the lens to adjust focus until the image is sharp. Avoid over-tightening. For macro applications, focus on a closer subject. Some modules may require you to first remove a protective film from the sensor.

The field of view depends on the sensor size. On a standard Raspberry Pi Camera Module (1/4" sensor), a 25mm lens provides a relatively narrow, telephoto field of view, typically around 20-25 degrees diagonally. This is significantly tighter than the default wide-angle lens, making it ideal for applications where you need to magnify a specific area, such as monitoring a doorway, reading a meter from a distance, or inspecting a small object on a production line.
