Description

The Cytron XBee Shield is an essential expansion board designed to seamlessly integrate XBee wireless modules with your Arduino development platform. This shield is sold without an XBee module, offering you the flexibility to choose the specific XBee variant that best suits your application requirements for wireless communication, such as Zigbee, 802.15.4, or Bluetooth.

Key to its versatility is the jumper-configurable serial pin connection. Users can route the XBee’s DIN and DOUT pins to either the Arduino’s dedicated hardware UART (D0, D1) or select digital pins (D2, D3, D8, D9, D10, D11), and even connect to the USB’s UART pins. This flexibility supports both hardware UART for optimal performance and software serial implementations. The shield efficiently manages power by regulating the 5V supply from the Arduino down to a stable 3.3V for the XBee module, while integrated level shifters ensure proper voltage translation for data lines.

For enhanced operational feedback, the board incorporates multiple LED indicators for power status, data transmission (DIN, DOUT), Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), and DIO5 (ASSOC) activity. The Arduino’s reset button is conveniently brought out to the shield, and a dedicated 0.1″ spaced prototyping area is reserved, allowing developers to add custom components or circuits directly onto the shield for bespoke projects.
