Description

The Arduino Esplora stands apart from other Arduino boards by providing a rich, built-in set of ready-to-use sensors and actuators directly on the board. Based on the ATmega32U4 microcontroller, which also powers the Arduino Leonardo, the Esplora offers robust processing power and native USB communication. This allows it to appear as a virtual serial port, a mouse, or a keyboard to a connected computer, simplifying the creation of custom control interfaces and human-interface devices (HIDs).

Its design is inspired by traditional gamepads, featuring an analog joystick with a central push-button, four push-buttons arranged in a diamond pattern, a microphone, a light sensor, and a buzzer. For further expansion, the board includes two TinkerKit input and output connectors, allowing seamless integration with TinkerKit sensor and actuator modules. A dedicated socket for a color TFT LCD screen also enables visual feedback and more complex user interfaces, making the Esplora a versatile platform for makers and developers.

Programming the Esplora is straightforward using the Arduino IDE, with a dedicated library available to simplify interaction with its onboard sensors and outputs. The ATmega32U4 comes pre-burned with a bootloader, enabling code uploads directly via USB without an external programmer. Additionally, the board incorporates USB overcurrent protection and a software reset mechanism for enhanced safety and ease of development.
