AkuSense PTV-D30N Photoelectric Proximity Sensor, 30cm Range, NPN Output, IP65, 2m Cable

The PTV-D30N features an NPN open collector (sinking) output. The brown wire is typically for V+ (10-30VDC), the blue wire for V- (GND), and the black wire is the switched output. When an object is detected, the black wire sinks current to ground. Connect the load (e.g., PLC input, relay coil) between the black wire and your positive supply voltage.

Diffuse reflection sensors, like the PTV-D30N, detect objects by bouncing light directly off the target. They do not require a separate reflector (unlike retro-reflective sensors) or a receiver opposite the emitter (unlike through-beam sensors). This makes them ideal for detecting objects at a fixed distance where installing a separate component is impractical.

Detection reliability can vary with surface properties. Transparent objects (clear glass, plastic) may not reflect enough infrared light to trigger the sensor. Highly reflective, specular surfaces can deflect the beam away from the receiver. For best results, test with the actual target material. The sensor is optimized for detecting non-reflective, opaque objects like tools, metal parts, and packaging.

An IP65 rating signifies the sensor housing is dust-tight (6) and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction (5). This makes the PTV-D30N suitable for use in industrial environments where it may be exposed to dust, debris, and occasional water spray from cleaning processes. It is not submersible or intended for continuous water immersion.
