Description

The Voice Recognition Module V3 is a speaker-dependent audio processing module designed for embedded command and control applications. Unlike its predecessor, the V3 stores all trained commands in a single library, allowing any combination of up to seven commands to be loaded into the active recognizer at once, providing greater flexibility than the grouped system of the V2.

It processes audio input via an integrated microphone interface and outputs recognition results through a 5V TTL UART serial protocol or via configurable General Output Pins, which can trigger waveforms or signals upon successful command detection. The module requires an initial training session for each voice command, supporting utterances up to 1500ms in length, typically corresponding to one or two spoken words.

Key Features

  • High-capacity voice library supporting up to 80 user-defined voice commands.
  • Multi-command recognition with up to 7 commands effective simultaneously.
  • Dual control pathways: Full-featured UART serial interface and GPIO pin control.
  • Integrated 3.5mm mono microphone jack with included external microphone.
  • Provides user-configurable General Output Pins for direct hardware triggering.
  • Includes a dedicated Arduino library for rapid integration and development.
  • Optimized performance-to-cost ratio for prototyping and end-use applications.
  • Low-power operation suitable for portable and battery-powered devices.

Applications

  • Voice-activated control systems for smart home appliances and IoT devices.
  • Hands-free command interfaces for robotics and mechatronic projects.
  • Accessibility aids and voice-controlled switches for assistive technology.
  • Interactive exhibits, toys, and educational tools requiring spoken input.
  • Industrial voice command systems for basic machine operation and safety protocols.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Voice Recognition Module V2 and V3?

The V3 offers a significant upgrade in capacity and flexibility. The V2 supported 15 total commands split into 3 groups, with only one group (5 commands) active at a time. The V3 supports 80 total commands stored in a single library, allowing any 7 commands to be active simultaneously, removing the group restriction.

How do I communicate with and control this module?

The module provides two primary control methods. For full functionality, use the 5V TTL UART serial interface to send training and recognition commands. Alternatively, you can use the General Input Pins for a subset of functions. The General Output Pins can be configured to trigger specific signals when a corresponding voice command is recognized.

What are the power requirements for the Voice Recognition Module V3?

The module requires a DC supply voltage between 4.5V and 5.5V. It draws less than 40 mA during operation. It is critical to use a stable 5V power source, such as from an Arduino's 5V pin or a regulated bench supply, for reliable audio processing and recognition accuracy.

Does the module come with software support for Arduino?

Yes, an Arduino library is supplied with the module to simplify integration. This library provides functions for training the module, managing the command library, setting active command groups, and reading recognition results via the serial port, accelerating development for Arduino-based projects.
