Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the Grove Flame Sensor?

The module operates from 4.75V to 5.30V DC, with a typical supply voltage of 5V. It is designed for direct compatibility with standard 5V microcontroller systems like most Arduino boards. Exceeding this voltage range may damage the onboard components.

How do I adjust the sensor's sensitivity and what does it output?

Sensitivity is adjusted via the onboard blue trimmer potentiometer. Turning it clockwise increases sensitivity. The module outputs a digital logic signal (HIGH/LOW). The output goes LOW when a flame or IR source within its spectral band is detected above the set threshold.

Can this sensor detect any light source, or only flames?

While optimized for flames, it detects any near-infrared light source emitting between 760 nm and 1100 nm. This includes certain LEDs, incandescent bulbs, and sunlight. The adjustable threshold helps discriminate against ambient IR, but false triggers can occur in bright IR-rich environments.

What is the interface, and how do I connect it to an Arduino?

It uses a 4-pin Grove connector (Digital I/O type). Connect it to any digital Grove port on a Seeed Studio Studio base shield, or wire the SIG pin to an Arduino digital input pin, VCC to 5V, and GND to ground. The fourth pin (NC) is not connected.
