Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for this MLX90393 module?

The onboard regulator and level shifter allow the module to be powered directly from a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller system. The Melexis MLX90393 IC itself operates from 2.2V to 3.6V, which is handled internally by the breakout board's design.

How do I connect multiple MLX90393 sensors to one microcontroller?

The module features solder Jumper pads to configure one of four possible I2C addresses. By bridging the appropriate pads, you can connect up to four sensors on the same I2C bus without address conflicts, simplifying wiring in multi-sensor setups.

Can I use this sensor without soldering?

Yes. The module includes STEMMA QT (Qwiic compatible) JST SH 4-pin connectors on both sides for plug-and-play connection with compatible cables. Pre-soldered 0.1" header pins are also provided for traditional soldered wire connections.

What is the difference between this wide-range MLX90393 and a typical compass magnetometer?

Standard compass sensors like the HMC5883L are optimized for Earth's weak magnetic field (~0.05mT). The MLX90393's ±50mT range is designed to measure much stronger fields from magnets or currents, making it suitable for proximity, motor control, and industrial detection applications.
